Message From Ms. Graham
June 2008
Dear UASCJ Families,
It is difficult to believe that an entire year has gone by! Last week’s Closing Ceremonies really highlighted all of our students’ accomplishments, both academic and artistic. Students received awards for their academic achievement, their eagerness to learn and ask questions, and their positive attitude that kept the UASCJ mission alive each and every day. During the talent show portion of the evening, students celebrated the performance abilities and talents. It this kind of well-rounded development that will help our students achieve college success.
As you may know, students have recently received their scores on the New York State ELA and Math Exams. Many of our students made great advancements in these subject areas. Thirty five percent of our students went up one performance level in either math or reading, and six students went up in both areas. In math in particular, 26% of our students went up one performance level, and 88% of our students are at or above grade level in math!
At UASCJ, these achievements are coupled with their artistic accomplishments. Last week, we saw students who had never acted before assume the role of the Wicked Witch or the Scarecrow with gusto and energy. We heard students sing solos in front of a crowd of over 100 people. Students created their own cheers and performed them with spirit. Throughout the year, students have had the opportunity to explore their artistic talents not only in Art class, but through project-based learning in English, Science and Social Studies as well.
It is because of the enthusiasm and hard work on the part of our students and the staff that has made this year a success. I wish you all a learning-filled summer and see you in September!
Warmly,
Ms. Graham
