Mr Gallaher Biography

Sloan T.F. Gallaher, 8th Grade

I was born in Apia, Western Samoa; a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Soon after my parents returned to the United States and we moved to Larchmont, NY where I spent my early life and teenage years. I have one older brother and a younger sister. After attending Mamaroneck High School where I played on the football, soccer and swimming teams, I went on to Boston College. I thoroughly enjoyed my education there, and soon after graduating wanted to become a teacher in order to give back some of the great experiences I had in school to a new generation of learners. I have been teaching in the New York City school systems as an English teacher for 25 years, and am excited to be a new member of the UAS Criminal Justice teaching staff.

Although I have lived in New York City ever since I became a NYC teacher, I moved to New Jersey last year when my son, Ryan was born. We live in Battery Park, New York, and as you can see from the picture, we spend most of our time during the summer at our summer house in southern New Jersey. Some of my interests and passions include reading (of course), creative writing, skiing, sailing, riding our new wave runner (jet ski), hiking, and, perhaps most importantly, traveling. The most important things I ever learned in life are that people are more important than any possession, and the greatest joy in life is the gift of a child.
